MARCH 2nd Issue Front Page
I find this page a little simple. I would have like to see a closer picture, with one to three people as the center. The picture seems to lack foucus. I think we should have two pictures on the front page, with one for the top story in addition to the talent show picture. I think the order of the ads on the bottom should be moved around with the oscar prediction in the center with the Prom on the right, so it looks more uniform. I am a big fan of action pictures, so I liked the picture by it self. I think we should try to take 5 or 6 pictures that are shrunk to a smaller size and made into collages for the big picture for the front. The Harrower talks about focus and emphasis on photos, so I would say we need to make the picture match with “Students perform for audience with a range of talent.” The photo needs to show people singing, dancing, and what not.
NOVEMBER 10th Page 15
This is a very well put page. I like the pictures that were chosen to use. the picture of the girl running is close and full of clarity. I am not sure whether this page needs more ads or not. I also think that the score board is very space consuming and i think we should ahve split the scoreboard over the sport section. I know it isn’t right to make people look around for information, but looking around will make our audience see something they like on there.

3 teen girls struck, killed on Florida railroad bridge
MELBOURNE, Fla. — Three teenage girls were joking around and taking pictures on a narrow bridge when they were hit by a train, killing them as a friend watched helplessly, police said Sunday.
This sentence is the lead of the story. With who as the three teenage girls, the what as the accident, where was in melbourne florida, how was by a train.
Town says abuse drove man to kill
FORT BRAGG, Mendocino County — For someone accused of shooting a 63-year-old former neighbor in front of the man’s stunned wife and then standing by for half an hour to watch him die, Aaron Vargas has an awful lot of supporters in this damp little coastal town.
The reason?
THis asrtiicle’s lead hooks the person by using a question causing them to read and find the answer.

Journalism was really fun. Journalism is a mini look at the future when we are all in the real world. Once you get a job, you have so many colleagues, and managers to work with. In journalism you get your first look at working with people to produce the school newspaper. Taking journalism has been one of my best decisions. We had to finish out articles on time, and turn them to our editors for revision. Once the revision comes back we had to correct them and get them approved again by the editor and a copy writer. Through all this process, you had to make sure you did enough articles to achieve a goal of 800 words per issue. We had four issues so far and I learned that finding sources for quotes and support for articles is the most difficult task. Overall, working with the Hatchet is really fun and a gteat learning process for the real world that we are going to move to.

I just talked to Brianna Terry and Deja Bishop regarding BSU’s activities.
BSU is looking forward to their fashion show. Students from our school are going to wear traditional African clothing at the fashion show, striding their African spirit. The money from the fashion show is going to be donated for charity to Hers Breast Cancer Foundation.
I also talked to Margina Anwari two days ago, regarding their plans.
The afghan club is going to be performing the afghan dance as usual. And separately a few students from the club are going to be doing belly dancing. The belly dancing is not supposed to be linked with the Afghan club, but it is a middle eastern dance form.
It would be interesting to cover the belly dancing on our newspaper.
In addition I talked to Sarah Pham regarding the Vietnamese club.
They have meet for potlucks at lunch sharing food, but other than that no events are to taking place with them. I will update about them as soon as i can.

This isn’t some random youtube video. This is Carmelo High school’s video broadcasts. This video was amazing, because instead of talking about DUI, they produced a short film for about it. This was actually made for a video contest, but it also relates to the topic of alcohalism and it’s outcomes. I think having videos like this on our website will pull in more students to visit our site.
