Beat Report multicultural

I just talked to Brianna Terry and Deja Bishop regarding BSU’s activities.

BSU is looking forward to their fashion show. Students from our school are going to wear traditional African clothing at the fashion show, striding their African spirit. The money from the fashion show is going to be donated for charity to Hers Breast Cancer Foundation.

I also talked to Margina Anwari two days ago, regarding their plans.

The afghan club is going to be performing the afghan dance as usual. And separately a few students from the club are going to be doing belly dancing. The belly dancing is not supposed to be linked with the Afghan club, but it is a middle eastern dance form.

It would be interesting to cover the belly dancing on our newspaper.

In addition I talked to Sarah Pham regarding the Vietnamese club.

They have meet for potlucks at lunch sharing food, but other than that no events are to taking place with them. I will update about them as soon as i can.

This isn’t some random youtube video. This is Carmelo High school’s video broadcasts. This video was amazing, because instead of talking about DUI, they produced a short film for about it. This was actually made for a video contest, but it also relates to the topic of alcohalism and it’s outcomes. I think having videos like this on our website will pull in more students to visit our site.

Norma Kamali was just one of the designers that was interviewed for this article about technology and fashion. Norma Kamali is known to be an innovative designer who follows her own path. The interviewer would have asked many questions to the designer but used only quotes that were needed. The reporter would have asked how the new application on the ipod relate to fashion? I think the reporter should have added more from the conversation they had. I think the reporter should have also talked about people who have tried this new application out.

Texting to Death

This link is on an article in the editorial section in today’s paper. The Governer’s Highway Safety have decided that there needs to be a ban on texting while driving and there has been evidence to support that texting and driving cause more diasters. This article talks about the who, what and why in the beginning of the article, giving us the main point.

First steps

After looking at my schedule on maze day the first thing i though was that Journalism is going to be a lot of writing and I was pretty sure I wanted to drop it. My mom told me that journalism is something you’d like, and she asked me not to be lazy about writing.  The first day in the class wasn’t so bad. There were many people i knew and the class itself was bubbly. The next thing I noticed is that, my classmates moved with a confidence, already prepared to do whatever was needed to be done. This bought up fear.

Not that I fear failing the class, but fear that I will be lost in confusion all the time. The class seems to be very loosely structured, and this freedom is what I fear. I am scared that I will not understand the assignment or cover my beat enough to satisfy the hatchet’s audience. All of my classmates had to write a paper last year and submit it to the teacher, to get his approval and acceptance into his journalism class. I never knew about the assignment, because I never knew I would get journalism as my elective. The closest thing I have done related to journalism is write stories, from my own imagination. I have been working on a story and have already finished 50 pages. I have interviewed people throughout high school for many projects. Would these experiences hold to be enough for me to understand journalism?

However, as this first week of school came to a close, I feel less frightened by my elective. It doesn’t seem so confusing. I talked to a lot of people as the class did the personality exercise. I saw many blue personalities like me, and it was very easy to talk to everyone. I am overcoming the fear of starting a new class, and I am pretty sure that my classmates and Mr. Skillings will pull me through this year.
